Сitizens of Ireland, TDs, senators, members of Irish parliament, officials, journalists and artists.
On behalf of Ukrainians in the Republic of Ireland, we want to draw your attention to the fate of famous Ukrainian film maker Oleg Sentsov, who was sentenced for 20 years by Russian court.
Many of Ukrainanis all over the world participated in Public protests and we cannot stay aside. We are begging to invoke support for Oleg Sentsov
In August 2015, the Russian court sentenced Oleg to 20 years behind the bars under the charges with preparing terrorist acts in Crimea.
He was accused of planning to set fire to the offices of “United Russia”, a pro-Kremlin political party, in Crimea. He denied all charges and said he was being punished for organising peaceful resistance to the Russian takeover of the peninsula in 2014.
Sentsov began his hunger strike on May 14 and has said he is not seeking his own release but is taking the drastic step in order to demand the release of all Ukranian political prisoners currently held in Russia. Sentsov’s lawyer, Dmitry Dinze, told Radio Free Europe that Sentsov may be subject to force feeding if his organs begin to fail.
The artists and activists around the world continue to rally for his cause. Supporters demanding Sentsov’s release include PEN America and the European Film Academy. The former addressed a letter to Russian president Vladimir Putin. The EFA has been pleading on his behalf for years, ramping up efforts recently to free Sentsov.
Sentsov is brave and decent person and he became a victim of Russian aggression against Ukraine, who is held hostage in inhuman conditions.
We are hoping that all together, the Irish Society, the journalists and politicians will also support these calls of protests. On the 17th of June at 2.00pm, a peaceful rally will take place to support Oleg Sentsov at front of the Dáil Éireann.
While you watching FIFA word cup – Oleg will be dying in Russian prison. Don’t let it happen!
Looking forward for you help and support.
